Welcome to the "Blue Country"
Hiking in the alps, a bike tour around the lake "Staffelsee", a visit to the "Franz Marc" museum or a tasting in the chocolate manufactory - Murnau and its extensive offer of cultural and culinary delights in the middle of the alpine upland is an ideal starting point for all kinds of activities. Enjoy the historic town center with its numerous boutiques and small stores, go on an exploration tour to one of the surrounding lakes such as the "Staffelsee" or "Kochelsee" or climb the peaks of the "Herzogstand-Heimgartenmassiv", "Wetterstein" mountains and the "Ammergau Alps". The museums and cultural institutions of the region are also more than just a bad-weather alternative. Here we reveal our personal tips for your time with us.
This dreamlike scenery can also be discovered on leisurely family bike tours or partly challenging mountain bike tours.
When hiking, mountain lovers devote themselves to the mighty peaks and ridges of the nearby Alpine chain: the view extends to the "Ammergau Alps", to the "Hörnle" and the "Ettaler Manndl" in the southwest, the "Wetterstein" Mountains with the "Zugspitze" and "Alpspitze" in the south, and the "Ester" Mountains and the "Walchensee" mountains "Heimgarten" and "Herzogstand" in the southeast.
In addition to the "Franz Marc" museum and the "Münter" house, other art collections such as those in the "Schloss Museum Murnau", the "Buchheim Museum" or the "Museum Penzberg" are waiting to be discovered. The world-famous Oberammergau Passion Play, which only takes place every 10 years, is also a highlight in the calendar of events.
