The most famous ones of those who stayed on, might be Gabriele Münter, Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc, who, originally just passing through, settled down in Murnau and Kochel at the beginning of the 20th century, to found the "Blue Rider" association, and to find inspiration in the various landscape to create many now famous works of art, some of which are on display in the Murnau and Kochel museum. As for Ödön von Horváth and Emmanuel von Seidl this unique region around Murnau left a lasting impression on both of them.
Nature
In front of the Alpenhof Murnau there is a 23 square kilometres intact nature reserve of Middle-Europe: the "Murnauer Moos". With view to the fantastic Alps panorama from the "Wetterstein" (with the highest mountain of Germany, the "Zugspitze"), the "Estergebirge" and the "Ammergauer" Alps you will enjoy the restful time on the beautiful landscape of the Blue Land. The changing day lights give the four seasons a special and unique touch. Walking in the intact nature you will appear in a place of silence and relaxation, where there is no place for every day life.
