Murnau was made world-famous by the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, who lived together with Gabriele Münter from 1909 to 1914 in what is now the Münterhaus. The well known museum was also the birthplace of the Expressionist group of artists "Blauer Reiter". This is what Gabriele Münter, Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc called themselves after they settled in Murnau and Kochel at the beginning of the 20th century.
Inspired by the varied landscape, many works of art were created here which were later to become famous. Ödön von Horváth and Emanuel von Seidl were also impressed by the unique area around Murnau.
The association Kulturverein Murnau e.V. is to be thanked for the fact that for more than 20 years national and international, famous and world-famous artists have been coming to Murnau to tread upon the "boards that mean the world". For example, the Murnau jazz concerts, the Cabaret programme and the World music festival not only enjoy a high status with the local population but also far beyond the borders of the market-town of Murnau, Bavaria and Germany.
Make use of the opportunity to visit a (jazz) concert or cabaret during your stay here at the Alpenhof Murnau. We will be happy to help you obtain your admission tickets.
Immediately in front of the Alpenhof Murnau stretches the Murnauer Moos, at 23 km² Central Europe's largest continuous, intact nature reserve area. Enjoy restful hours in the picturesque landscape of the Blue Land with a view onto the breathtaking mountain panorama of the Wetterstein (with Germany's highest peak, the Zugspitze), the Ester mountains and the Ammergau Alps. The changing moods of light make each of the four seasons something special. On your walks through unspoilt nature you will find yourself surrounded by peace and relaxation, in a place far away from stress and the daily grind.
The Alpenhof Murnau is the ideal starting point for your daytrips, on which you can visit and admire the sights of the Werdenfelser Land. We will be happy to organise for you an exclusive tour, in German and English, according to your wishes with the chauffeur and guide combined in one person.
