Originally passing through, three famous artists settled down in Murnau and Kochel in the early 20th century. Gabriele Münter, Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc founded the "Blauer Reiter" - association, drawing inspiration from the multifaceted landscape. Their famous works of art can be admired in the museums of Murnau and Kochel. With excitement one recognises the original settings of these paintings, as it is today still founded in Murnau and in its surroundings. Also, Ödon von Horvàth and Emmanuel von Seidl rekindled their spirits in this heavenly retreat. As an introduction to Upper Bavarian's culture Murnau and immediate surroundings offer the Schlossmuseum in Murnau, the Franz-Marc-Museum in Kochel, the house of Gabriele Münter and the "Blauer Reiter"- hiking-cycling-trail.
